Underwriting syndicate

• A group of investment dealers who buy the security issue from the company and then resell it to investors (savers). Each member of the group will underwrite a portion of a large security issue, thus lessening the risk of loss to any single firm.

• A group of investment banks that work together to sell new security offerings to investors. The underwriting syndicate is led by the lead underwriter. See also: lead underwriter.
